Wheat caryopsis consists of pericarp and seed. The pericarp is the outermost layer of the grain and the seed is comprised of seed coat, endosperm and germ. The endosperm and germ is enclosed by seed coat and epidermis. The outer endosperm layer (beneath the seed coat) is known as aleurone layer, which is the only living part of the wheat grain and act as the reservoir of micronutrients (Sharma et al., 2018).
